When One Door Closes, Another Opens

Do you dare to open the door and see what awaits you on the other side? Especially in the latest blogs, it was about taking the step to venture into new things and to discard old vices. This blog is not just about the internal conflicts and the uncertainty that accompany us at every step of the way, but also about what it means to start something new and what we will have to leave behind as we move forward.

You surely know the saying, "When one door closes, another opens." Imagine you are in a room filled with countless doors that are not locked. These rooms represent possible phases of life. They are vast, and you are never alone, as your social circle shares this space with you. Each door represents a decision you can make. However, you do not know what awaits you in the next room beyond the door. Besides the rooms and doors, there is one constant: time. Time flows relentlessly, whether you move or stay put. You cannot control time, but time, in turn, changes you, your surroundings, and your social environment. Deciding to go through a door does not mean you cannot go back. However, time causes a door to rust, and over time you will need more strength to open it and return to an old room. Moreover, you will never know how time has changed an old room. Everything you are accustomed to could be completely different by now.

Our greatest fear is an uncertain future. However, this fear is unfounded. As we move toward the future, we do so step by step; we never find ourselves suddenly and unprepared in a new reality. As mentioned before, doors never remain permanently closed, giving us the freedom to carefully choose our path and make decisions. Often, we believe that going back is impossible, but that is not true. Although it is true that the further we advance, the room to which we might want to return is no longer exactly the place we left. Yet, this does not mean we cannot return. Moreover, it is also true that the old room constantly changes, whether we are inside it or not.

It's important to understand that we are never alone on this journey. Even as we step through new doors and enter unknown spaces, we always bring a part of what we cherish with us. These include family and friends who will always accompany and support us in some way, and with whom we share our new experiences. This constant companionship and exchange work both ways. When we accompany or support people on their path, it can enrich our own lives if we let it. True friends will always be there, no matter which path we choose. Especially in today's modern age, nothing should prevent us from keeping in touch, and experience shows that valuable connections remain if they are truly strong. If relationships end simply because we want to develop further, then perhaps those friendships were not as deep and meaningful as we thought. Likewise, it is a natural process of life that relationships change and develop – just as we do ourselves.

Finally, Matze's practical tips: Even when we've resolved to embrace change, we hesitate. Doubt is a natural survival instinct, but it's often just the fear of change. We need to be aware that every day we take steps through various doors, not knowing what awaits us. How often does exactly what we expect happen the next day, let alone what we anticipate for the coming weeks, months, or years? Unconsciously, we're already wandering into an uncertain future every day, driven only by our instinct. Imagine doing it consciously from now on! Risk a few looks through different doors every day. Of course, you won't immediately see everything that lies behind them, but you'll at least get a big idea. Dare to take a few steps inside, and if you don't like it, you can always go back.
